A few weeks ago we downsized the number of children in our home, thanks to the love and help of family. We cut our clan of 4 in half, leaving us with the baby and the 5yo. We have allowed the older to stay up late, catch fireflies, eat cereal for almost every meal, go to work with daddy, watch more tv than usual, and ultimately, spend more time with him. This. is. awesome.

In order to spend our time with him wisely and to meet some of his dreams, we asked him to make a list of what he wanted to do in the next 4 days with us. Here is what he came up with:

1. Go to the YMCA
2. Ride our bikes down the “big hill”
3. Ride our bikes to East Park
4. Swim at the City Pool

What a great list! He would find so much joy in each of these options! His 4 days would be “full” if we accomplished this list of dreams and I think I can safely say, we could swing this list! Little does he know, though, Daddy and I are making our own list. We are dreaming too. 🙂 Here is just a snippet of what we are dreaming up for our time with our Smiley, Sporty, Singing Son:

1. Movie Theatre, How to Train Your Dragon 2
2. Fireworks, with daddy at home and on a much bigger scale in another community
3. having friends over to play
4. Maybe one meal “out”

Now, I may be going out on limb here, but who dreamed the bigger dreams? As I considered the options our son gave us in comparison to the options we had created for him (unknowingly), I couldn’t help but think of how our God dreams for us; each of us.

The biggest dreams I can dream for myself might be to:

1. be debt free
2. take a vacation
3. sleep without interruption
4. have a big garden

If these are my “big” dreams, what does God, as my Father, dream for me? I’m truly led to believe that my God is dreaming bigger than what I can dream, just as we “dream” bigger for our children. He is planning something better for my days than I can dream for myself. He wants more for me than what I can want for myself. He knows what I like, love, and desire, and He is making a way to give it to me.

I’m truly led to believe that my God is dreaming bigger than what I can dream..
The question is, am I willing to wait for it? Will I know He is the giver and thank him? Will I settle for my dreams instead of waiting for His dreams for me?

I love these questions! I can’t wait to see what more we learn about our Father in our time with baby and 5yo. We’ll give you an update after this week. Until then, be dreaming but even more, be looking for God’s bigger dreams for you!
