Today marks the 70th Anniversary of D-Day, a day I still can’t fully understand or wrap my mind around, a day that is a symbol of freedom.
Freedom. How lovely. Do you know what that means? Do your kids know what that means?
No joke, the frog never moved again.
Recently, my husband returned from a hunting trip with a frog….not a turkey. Our family was so excited to have a jumpy, new friend. We did everything we could to create the best environment for it. One night, our 5-year old wanted to let the frog out to jump. He let “bolt hopper” jump a few times, picked him up, and returned him to his aquarium. No joke, the frog never moved again. I told my husband, he died because he could no longer jump. He was returned to a life of captivity after knowing nothing other than freedom. He died because he was no longer free.
Scripture tells us that “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1)
Mom or Dad have you ever put yourself back in the “aquarium,” only to find that you have stopped moving? OR even more, have you put your child back in the “aquarium,” only to watch them stop moving?
Maybe you raised your voice to your child in a painful way, made a disgusting meal, didn’t spend as much time as you wanted with your family, forgot a significant family celebration, or said something you wish you could take back……Are you jumping free in the field or are you sitting on the rock in an aquarium, waiting to die?
The truth is, you should be jumping! JUMPING! jumPING! And if you are sitting….you should be reminded that you are sitting next to Jesus!!
Are you jumping free in the field or are you sitting on the rock in an aquarium…
“But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:4-6)
We are made alive and free to jump, even in our mistakes. We are alive and free to jump, even in our shortcomings. We are alive and free to jump, even in our failures, YES, even in our FAILURES. Because “Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2)
70 years ago, many men fought for a great freedom for many. A freedom that is to be cherished, remembered, and valued. Thank you, soldiers and families, for your sacrifices for our earthly freedoms.
Over 2000 years ago, ONE man suffered for ALL, to bring a freedom that allows us to jump, in a world that wants to put us back in our aquarium. Thank you Jesus for dying to bring me freedom.
May we all be encouraged to step out in confidence and boldness to JUMP big today. Because we can!
